Bankfoot is one of our closest villages — 10 minutes down the A9 to our Birnam workshop. If you're after a warranty-safe ECU remap written by Bob himself, you're in the right place. Every car is road-tested before collection.
Bad remaps wreck warranties. Good ones — supplier-verified, fully reversible, road-tested — keep you in a much stronger position. We'll explain exactly where you stand before any work starts.
Bob writes every map personally against supplier-verified base files. No generic downloads, no copy-and-paste tuning off a laptop in a layby. Your original file is backed up before anything is written, so the car can be returned to standard whenever you want. Every remapped car is road-tested on real roads before you get the keys back. We do not tune to a number on a screen — we tune so the car drives properly, pulls cleanly and does what you actually asked for, whether that is better economy on the Bankfoot commute or more pull when towing.
A remapped car is not a needier car, but it does deserve to be looked after properly. Keep to the service schedule, use a decent oil to the correct manufacturer spec, and change it on time rather than stretching the interval. We can service the car at the same time as the remap if it is due, which saves you a second trip. Oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter on diesels, brakes inspected, tyres and fluids checked — the usual thorough job, priced up front.
Before we write a single line of map, the car gets checked over. A remap magnifies whatever is already there, so if a Bankfoot car comes in with a partially blocked DPF, a sticking EGR valve, a tired turbo actuator or injectors that are already out of balance, we deal with that first or we do not proceed. The faults we see most on cars booked in for tuning are soot-loaded intakes on short-run diesels, boost leaks from perished hoses, and clutches that are already close to the end of their life. A stage one map adds torque, and torque finds a weak clutch quickly. We will tell you honestly if your car needs work before it needs tuning.
Bankfoot, Waterloo, Auchtergaven and Murthly customers are practically on our doorstep. We've remapped everything from tired old work vans through to family diesels and the occasional hot hatch.
"A remap is only as good as the engine underneath it. Fix the tired bits first, then tune — that order round saves people a fortune." — Bob
Give the engine time to warm through before you use the extra power, and let a turbo car idle for a few seconds before shutting it off after a hard run. If you run a diesel, get one longer, higher-speed run every couple of weeks so the particulate filter can regenerate properly — that matters more after a remap, not less. Keep an eye on the oil level between services. Modern turbo engines can use a little oil normally, and running one low is the fastest way to turn a cheap top-up into an expensive rebuild.
We are based in Birnam near Dunkeld (PH8 0DN), about 8 miles from Bankfoot — roughly 10 min in the car. We remap vehicles for customers right across Perthshire, including Waterloo, Auchtergaven, Murthly, Stanley, Birnam, and the wider Perthshire and Tayside area.
Bob has 32 years on the tools, writes every map personally, and uses supplier-verified base files only. No copy-and-paste tuning, no risk of generic maps damaging your engine.
