How we price a job
A quote is built from three things: the labour time the job genuinely takes, the parts at the quality we are willing to fit, and anything the car needs disturbing to get at the failed component. We quote before work starts, and if something unexpected turns up we ring you before spending your money.
Where a fault has not been identified yet, the honest answer is a diagnostic charge first and a repair quote after. Quoting a repair before knowing the cause is how people end up paying for parts that were never faulty.
What makes a quote go up or down
Access is usually the biggest factor. The same brake job can be an hour on one car and three on another because of seized fittings, corrosion or an undertray that has to come off. Parts choice matters too: a quality aftermarket part is often the sensible middle ground between a cheap online listing and main dealer pricing.
Seized and snapped bolts are the honest unknown on any older Scottish car. We will tell you up front where that risk sits, rather than quote low and add to the bill afterwards.
Getting an accurate quote first time
Give us the registration, the mileage and a clear description of the symptom. With the registration we can see the engine variant, the MOT history and the advisories already recorded, which usually narrows the job right down.
For MOT work the test itself is £54.85 and any repair needed to pass is quoted separately, with a clear split between what actually fails the test and what is only an advisory.

Is a quote free?
Yes, a quote is free. If the fault still needs identifying, there is a diagnostic charge for the time on the car, and that is agreed with you first.
Will the final bill match the quote?
It should. If anything unexpected appears — a seized bolt, a second failed part — we stop and call you before going further.
Do you fit parts I supply?
Ask when you book. Where we cannot warranty the part, we will tell you plainly before agreeing.
How fast is a reply?
