Where to find the serial number, what the display messages mean and how to key the code back in on a Renault.
What is a Renault pre-code? It is the short identifier — normally a letter plus three digits, such as K123 — printed on the radio label. Renault codes are worked out from that pre-code, so it is the one piece of information you cannot proceed without.
Can I get a Renault code from my VIN? No. Renault codes belong to the head unit, and a VIN only tells you what the car left the factory with. If the radio has ever been swapped, a VIN-based answer would be wrong.
How many wrong attempts before my Renault radio locks? Typically three. After that the unit goes into a timed lockout. Leave the radio powered on with the ignition in accessory and wait — switching off usually restarts the timer.
Do Renault vans use the same system? Yes. Trafic, Master and Kangoo units use the same pre-code arrangement, they are just harder to reach in the dash.
