The Ford faults that actually come through the workshop door — what causes them, the order to test in, and what an honest independent garage should charge.
These are the Ford faults we see most often in the workshop, each with the real cause on Ford engines, the order to test in, and an honest independent-garage cost rather than a dealer estimate.
Ford problems explained
- Ford 1.0 EcoBoost Rough Idle — A rough idle on the 1.0 EcoBoost almost always points to one of three things — a failed coil, a wet plug from a leaking water pump, or carbon-fouled injectors. Diagnose in this order to avoid paying for parts you don't need.
- Ford 1.6 TDCi Loss of Power — Loss of power / limp mode on the 1.6 TDCi (the PSA-shared DV6 unit) is one of the most common faults we see in the UK. Nine times out of ten it's the turbo actuator sticking from carbon, not the turbo itself.
Symptoms overlap between makes, but the likely cause does not. Knowing which component fails first on a Ford is what stops good parts being replaced on guesswork — always pay for the diagnosis before you pay for parts.
