What actually causes P2002 on a Ford

P2002 means the DPF physically can't trap soot effectively — substrate is cracked, melted from an uncontrolled regen, or so loaded with ash that there's no capacity left. Unlike P2463 (soot overload, often clearable), P2002 usually means a DPF replacement or off-vehicle clean. What matters is the freeze-frame data stored with it — engine speed, load, coolant temperature and fuel trims at the moment the fault was logged — plus whether any other module on the Ford has logged something at the same time. Clearing P2002 without fixing it
