A Vauxhall Astra radio asks for its security code after the head unit loses its permanent live feed — a flat battery, a battery change, a jump start or the radio being unplugged. How to find the serial number:
Check the handbook wallet for the original code card.
Unclip the trim surround around the head unit by hand.
Remove the four screws or use extraction keys depending on the unit type.
Read the GM serial from the label on the top of the casing.
How to key the code in:
Set each digit with presets 1 to 4.
On CD70 units the arrow keys change the value and OK advances.
Confirm and wait for SAFE to clear.
Worth knowing:
Astra G (1998–2004): CAR2003 and CDR500 Blaupunkt units. Serial on the casing label only.
Astra H (2004–2010): CD30, CD30 MP3 or CD70 NAVI. Double-DIN units sit behind a clipped surround with screws.
Astra J (2010–2015): CD300, CD400 and later touchscreen systems — the earlier ones still use a four-digit code.
CD70 NAVI units also carry a separate navigation DVD region setting, which is unrelated to the radio lock.

Is the CD70 code the same as the CD30? The entry method differs slightly but both are four-digit codes tied to their own unit serial, so the code from one will not work in the other.
