J10 or J11 — check before you start
The first-generation J10 Qashqai, built 2007 to 2013, carries a conventional Bosch or Clarion head unit and is the one that asks for a code after a battery change. The J11 from 2014 onward is mostly NissanConnect, which is coded to the vehicle — a flat battery on a J11 gives you a reboot and a lost clock, not a CODE prompt.
If your J11 is genuinely showing a code request, check whether a previous owner fitted an aftermarket or breaker's unit. A used head unit arrives locked to its own code regardless of which car it came out of.
Getting the serial off a J10
The trim strip above the radio carrying the hazard switch unclips first, straight out from the top. The vent surround follows, again by hand with a nylon tool to save the clips. Four screws then hold the radio cage — take all four out before drawing the unit forward, or the cage binds.
The label is on the top of the casing and normally starts BP or PP. Photograph it with the unit still plugged in if you can reach; the Qashqai multiplug is stiff and there is no need to disturb it just to read a number.
