A Dacia Sandero radio asks for its security code after the head unit loses its permanent live feed — a flat battery, a battery change, a jump start or the radio being unplugged. The code is held against the serial number of that head unit, not against the registration or VIN. Fitted units: Dacia Plug&Radio, Renault-derived CD units, Media Nav. Radio codes belong to the head unit serial number, not the vehicle registration or VIN.
A flat battery, battery replacement or radio removal is what triggers the code prompt.

How to find the serial number:
With the ignition on and the radio switched off, hold button 6 for several seconds.
If the pre-code does not appear, extract the unit and read the label.
Look for the line marked PRE-CODE above the barcode.
Record the letter and three digits exactly as printed.
How to key the code in:
Set each digit with presets 1 to 4, or the seek arrows on some units.
Hold button 6 to submit.
If it is rejected twice, re-check the pre-code before another attempt.
Worth knowing:
Entry-level Access models sometimes shipped without a radio at all — an owner-fitted aftermarket unit will not use the Dacia system.
Plug&Radio and CD units use the Renault-group pre-code, a letter followed by three digits.
The Sandero dash is shallow; once the trim ring is off, the unit slides out easily with two extraction keys.
If the radio has been asking for its code more than once, have the battery load-tested — a Sandero battery replaced late is the usual root cause.
My Sandero radio was fitted aftermarket Then the Dacia code system does not apply. Aftermarket head units have their own security arrangements, or none at all.
Where is the pre-code printed? On the barcode label on the top or side of the head unit casing, marked PRE-CODE.
Will a jump start lock the radio? It can. Anything that interrupts the permanent live — including removing a terminal to jump the car — will trigger the code prompt.
