Why is my gearbox juddering?

On a manual, juddering when pulling away usually means a worn clutch, a failing dual-mass flywheel (DMF), or contaminated friction plate. On a DSG/automatic, juddering at low speeds points to a worn clutch pack or mechatronic unit fault. Either way, it gets worse — get it diagnosed before it strands you.

Gearbox judder splits into manual vs automatic — completely different causes and costs.

Will a gearbox oil change fix juddering? — Sometimes — especially DSG and torque-converter at early stages. Won't fix worn clutch friction surfaces.
