EVs take a standard Class 4 MOT minus the emissions test. Testers check tyres, brakes, lights, suspension, steering, seatbelts, wipers, and structural condition. EV-specific fails are usually worn regen brakes that have corroded, or warning lights for the HV battery system.
EVs need an MOT every year from age 3, same as any car. What's different is what trips them up.
Are EV MOTs cheaper because there's no emissions test? — No — the DVSA fee is the same £54.85. The test just takes less time on the emissions side.
Can any garage MOT an EV? — Any DVSA-approved Class 4 station can. HV qualification is only needed for repairs, not MOT testing.
