How regen actually works

The motor runs in reverse, generating electricity to slow the car. The friction brakes only kick in for the last few mph, hard stops, or hill descents. So the pads barely touch the discs.

The corrosion problem

UK roads, salt, rain, and a disc that rarely heats up = surface rust that turns into pitting. Pitted discs vibrate, fail an MOT, and need replacing earlier than they should.

What to do

Annual brake clean and lube — £45–£70 at any decent garage. Use the friction brakes deliberately once a week on a dry day to warm and clean the discs. Avoid one-pedal driving 100% of the time if you live near the coast.

Safe to keep driving?
