Solar panels can charge an electric car in the UK, but usually as a partial top-up rather than a full overnight charge. Solar and an EV work well together because a car is a large, flexible load. Surplus generation that would otherwise be exported for a few pence a unit goes into the battery instead, which is where the value is.
The catch is timing. Most solar is produced when the car is out, so either the car is home during the day, or you need a battery to hold the surplus until it returns.

A compatible charger can track your export and ramp charging up and down to use only surplus power, rather than pulling from the grid. That is the feature to ask about — 'solar compatible' means different things to different manufacturers.

Doing the sums honestly
Compare three numbers: your import rate in the cheap overnight window, your export rate, and what the solar generates while the car is plugged in.
