Tyre Supply and Fitting in Birnam

We supply and fit tyres from budget, mid-range and premium manufacturers at competitive prices. Whether you need a single replacement after a puncture or a full set for the winter, we can source the right tyre for your vehicle and driving needs. All tyres are professionally fitted, balanced and the tracking checked to ensure even wear.

Choosing the Right Tyre

The right tyre depends on your vehicle, your driving habits and the conditions you typically encounter. For Perthshire drivers who regularly tackle rural roads, gravel tracks or winter conditions, a quality all-season or winter tyre can make a significant difference to grip and safety. We'll help you choose the right tyre for your needs and budget — we're not tied to any single brand, so our advice is genuinely impartial.

Tyre Safety and the Law

The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around the entire circumference. However, independent testing shows that stopping distances increase significantly below 3mm, particularly in wet conditions. We recommend replacing tyres at 3mm for safety. Driving with illegal tyres carries a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre — that's potentially 12 points and £10,000 for four bald tyres.

Puncture Repairs

Not every puncture means you need a new tyre. If the damage is in the repairable zone (the central tread area) and the tyre structure isn't compromised, we can carry out a permanent repair that meets British Standard BS AU 159. We'll always inspect the tyre thoroughly before recommending a repair or replacement.

What to expect

Drive in or call ahead to check availability for your tyre size. We stock popular sizes and can source most others for next-day fitting. The fitting process includes removing the old tyre, mounting and balancing the new one, checking tracking alignment, and resetting any TPMS sensors. We'll also inspect the remaining tyres and let you know their condition. Most tyre changes take around 30 minutes per tyre.

Frequently asked questions

How much do new tyres cost?

Tyres start from £45 fitted, depending on the size and brand. Popular sizes like 205/55 R16 are always in stock. For less common sizes, we can usually source and fit within 24 hours. We'll always give you options across budget, mid-range and premium brands so you can choose what suits your needs.

How do I know when my tyres need replacing?

Check the tread depth using the 20p coin test — if the outer band is visible, the tyre is below the legal limit. Also look for uneven wear patterns, bulges in the sidewall, cracking, or any embedded objects. If you're unsure, drive in and we'll check them for free.

Should I fit winter tyres in Scotland?

Winter tyres provide significantly better grip below 7°C, regardless of snow. Given that Perthshire temperatures regularly dip below freezing from October to April, winter tyres are well worth considering, especially if you drive rural or elevated routes around Pitlochry, Aberfeldy or the Cairngorms.

Do you offer wheel alignment?

Yes. We check tracking as part of every tyre change. A full four-wheel alignment ensures even tyre wear and correct handling. Misalignment is common after hitting potholes — and Perthshire has plenty of those, especially on rural B-roads after winter.
