Battery testing, supply, and fitting. We stock batteries for most makes and models — often available same day.

Car Battery Testing and Replacement in Birnam

A failing battery is one of the most common causes of breakdown in the UK, particularly during cold weather. We stock batteries for most makes and models and can test, supply and fit a replacement — often the same day you call. Every battery we fit comes with a manufacturer warranty for peace of mind.

Signs Your Battery is Failing

Slow or laboured cranking when starting the engine, dimming headlights at idle, electrical accessories behaving erratically, the battery warning light on your dashboard, or needing a jump start more than once — these all indicate a battery approaching the end of its life. Most car batteries last between three and five years, though cold Scottish winters can shorten this.

Battery Testing

We use a professional battery analyser that measures cranking amps, state of charge and internal resistance. This gives an accurate picture of your battery's health — not just whether it's charged, but whether it can still deliver sufficient power in cold conditions. We test your battery as part of every service and MOT.

Start-Stop Batteries

Vehicles with start-stop technology require AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) or EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) types. Fitting a standard battery to a start-stop vehicle can cause premature failure and electrical faults. We stock the correct battery type for your vehicle and register the new battery with the ECU where required.

What's included

  • Professional battery testing with diagnostic analyser
  • Batteries for most makes and models in stock
  • Same-day supply and fitting available
  • AGM and EFB batteries for start-stop vehicles
  • ECU battery registration where required
  • Manufacturer warranty on every battery

What to expect

If you suspect a battery issue, call or drive in. We'll test your battery within minutes using our diagnostic analyser and show you the results. If a replacement is needed, we usually have the correct battery in stock and can fit it straight away. Fitting takes around 20 minutes. We'll also check your charging system to ensure the alternator is working correctly, as a faulty alternator will kill a new battery just as quickly.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a new car battery cost?

Car batteries start from £69 fitted. The exact price depends on the battery size, type and your vehicle's requirements. Start-stop vehicles need AGM or EFB batteries which are more expensive than standard flooded types. We'll always quote you the correct battery for your car.

How long does a car battery last?

Typically three to five years, though this varies with driving habits and climate. Short journeys that don't allow the alternator to fully recharge the battery, cold temperatures, and vehicles with high electrical loads all reduce battery life. Regular testing helps catch a failing battery before it leaves you stranded.

Why does my battery go flat overnight?

A battery that drains overnight usually points to a parasitic draw — something is consuming power when the car is off. Common causes include a faulty alternator diode, a boot light stuck on, or an aftermarket accessory wired incorrectly. We can carry out a parasitic drain test to identify the culprit.

Can I replace my battery myself?

On many older vehicles, yes — it's straightforward. However, modern cars often require the new battery to be 'registered' with the ECU to ensure the charging system adapts correctly. Disconnecting the battery can also reset radio codes, window settings and other memorised functions. We handle all of this during fitting.
