What actually causes P0089 on a Volkswagen
VAG TSI engines use the N276 high-pressure regulator on the HP pump — when it fails, rail pressure can't be controlled accurately and P0089 stores, often with power loss under load. On TDI CR, P0089 can indicate the metering valve on the HP pump or, worse, internal CP4 pump failure. Always cut open the fuel filter on a TDI to check for swarf before pump work.
