Injector circuit Cylinder 3 on Vauxhall 1.7/1.9/2.0 CDTi — failing injector or wiring harness fault, particularly on Insignia and Astra J.
Vauxhall P0203 — Injector circuit Cylinder 3 on Vauxhall 1.7/1.9/2.0 CDTi — failing injector or wiring harness fault, particularly on Insignia and Astra J. Typical UK independent garage cost: £220–£780.
What actually causes P0203 on a Vauxhall
Vauxhall 1.9 CDTi (Fiat-shared JTD) injectors are Bosch units that fail intermittently — cyl 3 connector is positioned where engine flex causes the spade terminals to back out. On 2.0 CDTi Insignia the under-bonnet harness chafes against the alternator bracket and cyl 3's wire is usually the first to short. 1.7 CDTi uses Denso injectors which fare slightly better mechanically but the connectors corrode.
Vauxhall engines that log P0203
- 1.7 CDTi (Astra H/J, Corsa D, Meriva)
- 1.9 CDTi (Vectra C, Astra H, Zafira B, Signum)
- 2.0 CDTi (Insignia, Astra J, Zafira C)
How we diagnose P0203 on a Vauxhall
- Tech2 / OP-COM — read injector correction values
- Visually inspect harness from ECU to injector for chafing or corrosion
- Swap injector connector to a known-good cylinder, see if fault follows
- Measure resistance and check for short to ground
- Replace injector and code ISA value if it's the injector at fault
The common misdiagnosis to avoid
Garages often replace the injector first; on Insignia and Astra J the wiring harness fault accounts for around half of P0203 cases — checking for chafed wires saves £200+.
Vauxhall P0203 repair cost in the UK
Expect £220–£780 including parts and labour at an independent garage. Main-dealer quotes on Vauxhall are usually higher for the same job, and the spread exists because the cheap cause and the expensive cause throw the same code — pay for the diagnosis before you pay for parts.
Bob's workshop tip
Insignia 2.0 CDTi P0203 is so reliably caused by the alternator-bracket chafe that we now do a 5-minute harness inspection on every Insignia in for service — caught early it's a £20 repair, ignored it becomes a £400 injector and ECU damage.
