Very common Audi/VW 2.0 TDI code — swirl flap position sensor.

P2015 — also written P2O15, P 2015, 2015 — is the OBD-II code for intake manifold runner position sensor range (bank 1). Same code, same fix: this page covers every spelling of it.

This is the classic 'swirl flap' headache on VW and Audi diesels, where the plastic bits inside the manifold wear out and confuse the engine's computer. It's usually the 2.0 TDI CR engines that suffer most.

P2015 is a engine fault code, typically costing £90–£900 to put right in a UK garage.

What P2015 actually feels like to drive

  • Glow plug light flashing on the dash (limp mode)
  • Engine Management Light (EML) staying solid amber
  • Noticeable loss of 'oomph' when overtaking on the A9
  • Rough idling when you first start it up on a cold morning
  • Slightly heavier fuel consumption than usual on the motorway

What causes P2015?

  • Failed flap position sensor
  • Broken plastic linkage inside manifold

UK vehicles that throw P2015 most often

  • VW Golf Mk6 2.0 TDI (CBAA/CBAB) 2008-2013
  • Audi A3 2.0 TDI (CBBB) 2009-2012
  • VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI 2008-2015
  • Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0 TDI (CEGA) 2008-2013
  • Audi A4 B8 2.0 TDI (CAGA/CAGB) 2008-2015
  • Seat Leon 2.0 TDI (CEGA) 2009-2012

How P2015 is fixed

  • Replace swirl flap sensor
  • Full intake manifold replacement if linkage broken

The P2015 misdiagnosis that wastes money

I see so many lads waste £150 on a new Pierburg actuator or a sensor, thinking it’s an electrical glitch. They swap it, clear the code, and ten miles later the Glow Plug light is flashing again. The real culprit is almost always physical wear. The plastic stop-lug inside the manifold wears down by a fraction of a millimetre, letting the flaps rotate too far. The sensor isn't lying; the flaps are literally out of their mapped range. Don't buy a sensor until you've checked the linkage movement with the engine off.

What a UK garage should charge for P2015

If you go the 'repair bracket' route, you're looking at about £90 including a diagnostic scan and half an hour's labour. A mid-range aftermarket manifold (like Febi or Vaico) will cost you £250-£350 plus about 3 hours labour, totalling around £500. If you go to a main dealer for a genuine VW part and their £150-an-hour labour rate, don't be surprised to see a bill north of £900. Stick to a good indie for this one.

P2015 repair cost in the UK

Most P2015 repairs land between £90–£900 including parts and labour. The spread is wide because the cheap fix (a sensor, a hose, a leak) and the expensive fix (a major component) throw the same code — which is why a proper diagnosis before parts are bought saves the most money.

Bob's tip on P2015

If you're driving a VAG group car, don't let a garage talk you into a £900 manifold replacement straight away. Ask them about a 'P2015 Repair Bracket'. It’s a little bit of CNC-machined aluminium that costs about £20-£30 and stops the arm from over-rotating. I’ve saved customers hundreds by fitting these in 20 minutes. If the manifold is choked with carbon, then aye, replace the lot, but if it's just the 'range' error, the bracket is a permanent fix that the main dealers won't tell you about.

Can you drive with P2015?

Yes but MPG poor.

Urgency: medium.
