The turbo boost control isn't responding as the ECU commands — most common on Ford 1.0 EcoBoost and PSA diesels.

P132B — also written P132B, P 132B, 132B — is the OBD-II code for turbocharger boost control 'a' performance. Same code, same fix: this page covers every spelling of it.

This code means your turbo isn't hitting the boost targets the ECU wants, usually because the mechanical bits are sticking or leaking. It's the 'bread and butter' fault for Ford EcoBoosts and Peugeot/Citroën diesels with high mileage.

P132B is a engine fault code, typically costing £180–£1500 to put right in a UK garage.

What P132B actually feels like to drive

  • Car goes into 'Limp Mode' the second you try to overtake on the A9.
  • A noticeable 'rattle' from the engine bay when you lift off the throttle.
  • Total lack of poke uphill, feeling like the turbo has just gone on holiday.
  • The 'Engine Service Now' message popping up on the Ford dash.
  • Intermittent power – fine one day, flat as a pancake the next.

What causes P132B?

  • Failed wastegate actuator
  • Sticking VGT
  • Failed boost sensor
  • Split charge pipe

UK vehicles that throw P132B most often

  • Ford Focus & Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost (2012-2019) - very common wastegate wear.
  • Peugeot 308 & 508 1.6/2.0 BlueHDi - sticking VGT vanes.
  • Citroen Berlingo 1.6 HDi - carbon buildup in the turbo.
  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (DW10C engine) - actuator failure.
  • Land Rover Freelander 2 (2.2 SD4) - sticking variable vanes.

How P132B is fixed

  • Actuator-only replacement where available (much cheaper than whole turbo)
  • Smoke-test boost system
  • Clean carbon from VGT vanes

The P132B misdiagnosis that wastes money

I see folk throwing brand new boost sensors or expensive Pierburg control valves at this all day long, thinking it’s an easy electronic fix. Half the time, the real culprit is a tiny split in the rubber boost hose or, more likely on the 1.0 EcoBoost, the wastegate arm has literally worn oval and is rattling around. I’ve had lads waste £300 on sensors only to find the VGT vanes on their PSA diesel are choked solid with carbon from too many short trips to the shops.

What a UK garage should charge for P132B

If it’s just a split hose, you’re looking at £120–£180 fitted. A vacuum actuator replacement usually lands around £350 including labour. However, if the internal VGT vanes are seized or the Ford wastegate is properly knackered, a new Garrett or BorgWarner turbo will set you back £800 to £1,200 plus another £300 in labour. Avoid the 'recon' turbos off eBay for £200; they're usually Chinese scrap that won't last an MOT cycle.

P132B repair cost in the UK

Most P132B repairs land between £180–£1500 including parts and labour. The spread is wide because the cheap fix (a sensor, a hose, a leak) and the expensive fix (a major component) throw the same code — which is why a proper diagnosis before parts are bought saves the most money.

Bob's tip on P132B

Before you let a garage quote you £1,500 for a whole new turbo, ask them to 'vacuum test the actuator' and 'check the wastegate linkage for play.' If it's a Ford 1.0 EcoBoost, there are aftermarket actuator kits (like Melett) that we can fit for a fraction of the cost of a main dealer turbo. Also, insist on a smoke test; a pinhole leak in the intercooler will trigger P132B because the turbo is spinning its heart out but the pressure isn't reaching the intake. If they won't test it, find a garage that will.

Can you drive with P132B?

Limp mode likely under load.

Urgency: medium.
