Coil 2 fault.

P0352 — also written PO352, P 0352, 0352 — is the OBD-II code for ignition coil 'b' circuit. Same code, same fix: this page covers every spelling of it.

Your ECU has lost touch with the No.2 ignition coil. On many UK Fords and Vauxhalls, this usually means the coil has fried itself or the wiring loom has rubbed through.

P0352 is a ignition fault code, typically costing £50–£350 to put right in a UK garage.

What P0352 actually feels like to drive

  • The engine 'kangaroos' violently when you try to pull away from a junction.
  • Distinctive 'chugging' sound like a lawnmower, especially noticeable at idle.
  • Engine Management Light (EML) starts flashing specifically when you're under load or going uphill.
  • Smell of unburnt petrol coming from the exhaust pipe (because cylinder 2 isn't firing).
  • The car feels like it’s lost 50% of its power, making overtaking dangerous.
  • Rough idling that vibrates through the steering wheel and pedals.

What causes P0352?

  • Coil failure

  • Vauxhall Astra J 1.4 Turbo (A14NET) 2009-2015

How P0352 is fixed

  • Coil replacement

The P0352 misdiagnosis that wastes money

I see folks jumping straight to the spark plugs every single time this P0352 pops up. They'll drop £40 on a set of NGKs thinking it's a simple fix, but then the misfire stays. The real kicker on cars like the Astra H or Corsa D is the 'pencil' coil pack rail. It’s a single unit that covers all cylinders—you can't just swap one. People try to clean the springs inside, but if the internal secondary winding has gone south, you’re just wasting your Saturday. Occasionally, it’s not the coil at all; it’s a break in the wiring loom where it rubs against the ECU bracket, especially on the Fiat-engined Vauxhalls.

What a UK garage should charge for P0352

An independent garage like mine will charge about £50 to £70 for the initial diagnostic plug-in. For a Ford Fiesta, a decent Bosch coil pack is about £40-£60, plus half an hour's labour, so you're looking at £120 total. If it’s a Vauxhall Corsa with the full rail, the part is closer to £100 for a Delphi unit, bringing the bill to around £180. Steer clear of the main dealers for this—they'll charge you £150 for the 'guided diagnosis' alone before they even open the bonnet, and their 'genuine' parts are often just rebranded Delphi units with a 100% markup.

P0352 repair cost in the UK

Most P0352 repairs land between £50–£350 including parts and labour. The spread is wide because the cheap fix (a sensor, a hose, a leak) and the expensive fix (a major component) throw the same code — which is why a proper diagnosis before parts are bought saves the most money.

Bob's tip on P0352

If you're taking it to a garage, ask them to 'swap the coils' (if they are individual units) to see if the code moves to P0351 or P0353. If the code stays on P0352 after swapping the coil to a different cylinder, the fault is in the wiring or the ECU, not the coil itself. Don't let them just 'parts-cannon' a new coil on without this 5-minute test. Also, if they say you need a new ECU, ask if they’ve checked the 'coil drivers'. It’s a common failure on older Transit Connects where the ECU gets cooked because a cheap aftermarket coil was fitted previously. Insist on a Bosch, Delphi, or Denso replacement—anything else usually ends up back in my scrap bin within six months.
