Cylinder 7 injector circuit fault (V8s and some straight sixes).
P0207 — also written PO2O7, P 0207, 0207 — is the OBD-II code for injector circuit — cylinder 7. Same code, same fix: this page covers every spelling of it.
This code means the ECU has lost its electrical connection to the number 7 fuel injector, usually found on big V8s like Land Rover's TDV8 or the older BMW 4.4 units. It's a proper misfire that won't go away until the circuit is complete again.
P0207 is a fuel & air fault code, typically costing £120–£900 to put right in a UK garage.
What P0207 actually feels like to drive
- Engine feels like it's trying to shake itself out of the mounts at idle.
- 'Restricted Performance' or 'Limp Mode' message on the dash.
- Heavy ticking sound that follows the engine RPM.
- Noticeable loss of power when trying to join the A9 or overtake.
- The car 'hunts' for a steady idle when you're sat at the lights.
What causes P0207?
- Failed injector solenoid
- Wiring open circuit
- ECU driver failure
UK vehicles that throw P0207 most often
- Land Rover Range Rover Sport 3.6 TDV8 (2007-2011)
- Jaguar XF 4.2 / 5.0 V8 (2008-2015)
- BMW 540i / 550i (E60/F10) with N62/N63 engines
- Mercedes-Benz ML500 / S500 (M273 engine) 2006-2013
- Audi A8 4.2 TDI V8 (2005-2012)
How P0207 is fixed
- Test injector resistance
- Replace injector
- Repair loom
The P0207 misdiagnosis that wastes money
I’ve seen dozens of lads jump the gun and swap the injector immediately, only to find the new one (often a £250 Bosch unit) does exactly the same thing. Because Cylinder 7 is often tucked right at the back of the bay near the bulkhead, the wiring loom takes a lot of heat and vibration. I once had a Range Rover L322 where the owner spent £600 on parts, but the real culprit was a tiny bit of loom insulation that had rubbed through against the engine hoist bracket. Test your continuity before you open your wallet.
What a UK garage should charge for P0207
A diagnostic scan and loom test will cost you £60 to £90 at a good independent. If it’s just a broken wire, you’re looking at £120 total. However, if a Bosch or Denso injector has failed, the part alone is usually £180–£350, plus two hours of labour (£150-£200). If you go to a main dealer, expect that total to fly north of £900 once they add their 'genuine' parts markup and £150-an-hour labour rates.
P0207 repair cost in the UK
Most P0207 repairs land between £120–£900 including parts and labour. The spread is wide because the cheap fix (a sensor, a hose, a leak) and the expensive fix (a major component) throw the same code — which is why a proper diagnosis before parts are bought saves the most money.
Bob's tip on P0207
If you're taking it to a garage, don't just ask for 'an injector change.' Ask them to perform a 'noid light test' or an oscilloscope trace on the injector pulse first. This proves the ECU is actually sending the signal. If the signal is there, the injector's dead. If the signal is missing, you're looking at a wiring break or a fried ECU driver. Also, if it's a Land Rover TDV8, insist they check for moisture in the ECU pins—I've seen water ingress travel up the loom and fry the circuit for that specific bank.
