What a service at Bob's actually includes
An interim service covers engine oil and filter, a full fluid top-up, tyre condition and pressures, brake inspection, lights, wipers, battery condition and a road test. A full service adds the air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter where fitted, spark plugs on petrol cars at the correct interval, a fuller brake strip-and-check and a written list of anything coming up.
Every service ends with a conversation rather than a tick sheet. You are told what was found, what was done, what needs doing next and roughly when — so you can budget instead of being surprised.
How often a car needs servicing
Most modern cars are on 12 months or 10,000–12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Short-journey cars that never get properly warm need oil changes more often, not less, because the oil collects fuel and moisture it never boils off.
Long-life service intervals suit fleet accountants more than engines. If you do a lot of stop-start driving, towing, or short winter runs, a yearly oil change is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy against turbo and timing chain wear.
